OVERVIEW |
|
| |
|
|
| |
South of Anahola Bay, the local favorite
Anahola Beach Park has something suitable
for everyone. Located on the eastern
shoreline of Kauai, approximately ½ mile
from Mile Marker 13 on Anahola Road, Anahola
Beach is considered the safest beach on
Kauai, year in and year out. The white-sand
beach is protected from high surf by an
outcropping and the water is shallow, so
even kids can swim here.
Near the mouth of the Anahola River, the
beach is less protected and has a shorebreak
that’s ideal for bodyboarding. The center
part of the beach is a no-board area;
surfers should head to the northern side,
the only area where it’s allowed to surf.
Anahola Beach Park is also a noted place for
offshore snorkeling and diving for
beginners. Extra caution should be taken
near the river mouth, though; rip currents
are strong here.
The 0.42-mile-long shoreline also offers a
view of the Kalalea Mountains and with the
Anahola River flowing majestically behind
it, some photo opportunities, too! Ironwood
trees fringe the back of the shoreline,
providing beachgoers and picnickers plenty
of shade. Children frolicking at the nearby
Anahola River and locals pole fishing at the
river are also a common sight here.
Surrounded by the Hawaiian Home Lands which
is the town Anahola, the beach park is also
the only campground on the eastern coast of
Kauai. There are no cabins, but plenty of
tents for rent. In the summer, the beach
park can be pretty crowded with tents and
campers. |
