  OVERVIEW

Pilaa Beach is an undiscovered secluded remote jewel of Kauai.  It cannot claim any significant prizes. What it can claim is a totally relaxing undisturbed afternoon. You might see a local or two out trying to catch Lobster. But that's about all.

  DIRECTIONS

Head east out of Princeville on Highway 56.  Turn north on Waiakalua Road at mile post 20.7.  Then travel .7 miles on pavement.  After the road takes a right angle turn to the east, take the 1st left and go .3 miles on a dirt road.  There is parking for about 8 cars.  Follow the path about 220 vertical feet to the base.  Careful, its slippery when wet.  When you get to the bottom, you can hop lava rocks a quarter mile to the east to Pila beach [very very deserted].

  PLEASE NOTE

While Hawaii's beaches can bring much enjoyment, it is always a good practice to use common sense while visiting them. Please be aware of the wave & wind conditions before going into the water. Mornings are usually best for swimming, snorkeling or diving. Have respect for the strength of the waves and be aware that high surf can come up at any time. NEVER turn your back to the ocean.

Be careful when exploring any rocky shorelines. Waves can crash on the rocks and knock you over easily, and the rocks may also be sharp when walking on them.

When snorkeling or scuba diving, please have respect for ocean life, and remember that the coral reef is alive too. Avoid standing on or touching if at all possible.
